Comment from the Coach
Team,
A very good victory today - still tighter than we would like (ie a 8-0
victory would be nice one day to reduce the parents' tension...) - but a 4-3
win shows great character.
We were tight on player numbers today but special thanks to Ollie to
responding to a last minute call - and he capped it off with a very solid
game too.
We went one up after several good opportunities courtesy of an immaculate
free kick from James - beautifully positioned and always going in
from the time it left his boot. We turned in at half time 2-1 up after some
good work from Callum (we will give him the goal...). After half time
we went a bit AWOL for a while when we lost some mid-field and defensive
cohesion to go 2-3 down. Then James immediately struck back to level
us at 3 when he rounded the keeper nicely - then Jonathon (who played
an excellent game returning from injury) hassled through the decider with
5-10m left to play. From that point, we played for possession and ran down
the clock to finish with a deserved victory.
Fran played an excellent game in goal - there are few goalies with
Fran's courage to consistently front up to players. He rounded off a good
display with an improved kicking performance.
Man-of-the-match today was Matt
- a game where he believed in the ability we know he has. He chested the
ball well, showed sublime close range skills and set-up many forward forays
- a great game Matt > we look forward to more of the same!
